Dry Eye Syndrome
Dr. Balacich manages and treats dry eye syndrome and ocular surface disease. Dry eye syndrome can affect people of all ages and can be worsened by various conditions . Some conditions include environmental factors, digital devices , autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome, lupus etc) diet, post lasik surgery and contact lens wear . Symptoms include itching, burning, tearing, gritty, intermittent blur, tired eyes, contact lens discomfort and lids stuck upon awakening. Diabetic Eye Exam
Diabetic retinopathy is the #1 cause of blindness between the ages if 20-74. Diabetic eye exams are essential for detecting early diabetic eye disease. At Navesink Eye we throughly examine the external and internal ocular structures to determine if diabetes has affected any parts of the eyes or vision. Macular Degeneration
Age related macular degeneration is a condition that affects your central vision making it difficult to see fine detail and how well you respond in different lighting conditions. There are two types; wet and dry. Risk factors include age, race, smoking and genetics. ARMD is the leading cause of severe vision loss over the age of 50 and at Navesink Eye we offer the latest technology and therapy in evaluating each patient.

Cataract
Cataracts are the natural clouding of the lens in your eye which can impair your vision. Symptoms of cataracts include glare and halos around lights, inability to see well in low light conditions ( the menu at your favorite restaurant), decreased color intensity and decreased vision. Dr. Balacich evaluates each patient for cataracts and provides pre and post cataract surgery management.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60. Glaucoma is caused by the increase of pressure within the eye causing damage to the cells that connect the brain to the eye; the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss. Glaucoma is slowly progressive , blinding, and silent. A patient cannot feel that they have glaucoma until significant damage has taken place and peripheral vision loss starts to ensue . At Navesink Eye we screen each patient every visit and are equipped with the latest technology to allow for early detection and management of patients with glaucoma.

Pediatric Exams
To ensure that your child’s vision reaches its full potential, it is very important that they too get a comprehensive examination. Dr. Balacich and the AOA recommends an eye exam at 6 months, 3 years, before kindergarten and once every year after. Dr. Balacich completed an advanced track pediatric rotation during her studies and is welcoming all children. Our exams assess visual acuity, focusing skills, eye tracking and detect conditions such as nearsightedness, astigmatism, farsightedness, amblyopia (lazy eye), and ocular health conditions.
